YMCA of Greater Toronto Recognized as a Top Employer for 14th Year

03 December 2021

Toronto – December 3, 2021 – The YMCA of Greater Toronto is honoured to be selected as one of the Greater Toronto Area’s Top Employers for 2022 – the 14th year in a row that the charity has received the recognition.

This past year, the YMCA and its employees continued to help people across the GTA reach their potential during an ongoing pandemic that has dimmed the light of many in our community. Employees from child care educators and fitness leaders to employment counsellors and youth shelter professionals find fulfillment helping people shine. Employees continued to adapt programs and services to meet the needs of the community including with emergency child care, virtual camps, health and fitness programming, food banks and vaccination clinics. Y employees also continued to offer remote and in-person employment and immigrant services, and The Bright Spot, an online community for older adults offering exercise classes, trivia nights, virtual travel and more.

In return, the charity stepped up for its employees during this challenging time. This included recognition pay for frontline staff need and new virtual connections to retain a sense of belonging during a time of physical distancing.

“We’re honoured to be recognized with this prestigious award for a 14th year and that’s only possible when we focus on the well-being of our almost 5,000 employees,” says Medhat Mahdy, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Toronto. “I’m so proud of how our employees stepped up to help people in our community shine and it was important for our charity to support staff during a challenging year.”

The YMCA of Greater Toronto offers a range of employment opportunities for a variety of roles at over 400 locations across the GTA. In addition to being among the 2022 Greater Toronto’s Top Employers, the YMCA of Greater Toronto was also recognized in 2021 as one of Canada’s top employers for young people, a best diversity employer and a green employer.
