YMCA of Greater Toronto Recognized as one of the Greater Toronto’s Top Employers

09 December 2022

Toronto – December 9, 2022 – The YMCA of Greater Toronto is honoured to be selected as one of the Greater Toronto's Top Employers for 2023, marking the 15th year in a row that the charity has received the recognition.

The YMCA of Greater Toronto offers an enriching environment where employees not only spark potential in others but in their own careers. It offers a variety of employment opportunities including early childhood educators, lifeguards, employment counsellors, camp counsellors, IT professionals, shelter workers and outdoor educators. With more than 440 locations across the Greater Toronto Area, many employees find rewarding careers in their own communities.

The Y offers employees a number of benefits:

  • It provides new parents (including adoptive parents) with exceptional maternity and parental leave top-up payments, starting with 100 per cent for the first week and followed by an 80 per cent top-up for 25 weeks.
  • In early 2022, the YMCA of Greater Toronto launched the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Not Myself Today portal, which supports employee mental health by providing access to educational modules, activities and resources.
  • The charity prepares both full-time and part-time employees for life after work through a defined contribution pension plan, with contributions matched by the charity (employees join plan after two years of service).

“The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a place where employees can reach their potential while also helping people in our community shine,” says Medhat Mahdy, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Toronto. “When you map where our successes are coming from, it's our staff. It’s their dedication, their commitment, their talent. Creating a healthy, engaged, and inclusive workforce is a priority for our charity.”

In addition to being among the 2023 Greater Toronto’s Top Employers, the YMCA of Greater Toronto was also recognized as one of Canada’s top employers for young people and a best green employer in 2022.
