10 October 2019

Vaughan business leaders Peter Cortellucci and Andrea DeGasperis-Ronco were named Co-Chairs of the YMCA of Greater Toronto’s Strong Start, Great Future Capital Campaign Cabinet in Vaughan last night. The announcement was made by Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and the President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Toronto, Medhat Mahdy.

“You’ve truly made it as a city when you have a YMCA. When the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre YMCA opens next year, it will mark an important milestone in our city’s evolution,” said Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor, City of Vaughan. “I have known both Andrea and Peter for many years and our city is fortunate to have them take on this exciting opportunity alongside nearly a dozen of their Vaughan peers.”

The City of Vaughan and the YMCA of Greater Toronto have invested in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre YMCA and $14 million is needed from the community.

“It’s thanks to the incredible efforts of our Strong Start, Great Future Campaign Cabinet — many of whom, like Peter and Andrea, are the next generation of Vaughan leaders — that we are making strides toward our goal,” said Mr. Mahdy. “By supporting their efforts, residents and businesses in Vaughan can help make this new Y a reality.”

“The Y will create a brighter and more connected Vaughan for years to come,” said Ms. DeGasperis-Ronco, Principal and Co-Founder of OPUS Homes and Co-Chair of the YMCA Campaign Cabinet in Vaughan.

“The Y means strong social, physical, and mental well-being for everyone,” said Mr. Cortellucci, Vice President of the Cortel Group and Co-Chair of the YMCA Campaign Cabinet in Vaughan.

The Vaughan Cabinet also includes local volunteers Paul Bailey, Owner, Bazil Developments; Kaye Bland, PwC, Partner Tax, Private Company Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP; Luciano Blandi, Vice President & Market Manager at BMO Private Banking; Frank De Gasperis, Project Manager, Condrain Group; Julian De Meneghi, Planner, Project Manager, Land Development, Lormel Homes Ltd.; Rob Falbo, Community Leader; Sakina Fazel, In-House Counsel, Liberty Development Corporation; Jonathan L. Frustaglio, Litigation Associate, Sutherland Law; David Vigliatore, Chief Financial Officer, Bolton Railings Inc.; and Riccardo Del Vecchio, Partner, Miller Thomson LLP.

The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a 165-year-old charity committed to making communities stronger and setting people of all ages on the road to success. The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre YMCA, currently under construction in the heart of the city’s new downtown, will support a healthy workforce whose enhanced productivity will drive a stronger economy. The Y will open more child care spaces for families who want or need them, helping more parents chase their career dreams. It will transform the leaders of tomorrow into confident change-makers — and give them their first job opportunities. And it will help ensure everyone grows up healthy and happy, into their retirement years and beyond, by complementing physical activity with community and connections.
