Music and community in perfect harmony

We couldn’t be more excited that our YMCA and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra — two historic Toronto charities that work to enrich the lives and well-being of people living in our communities — have embarked on an exciting partnership to bring the importance of music and community together and help you shine.

The Power of Music To Unite Community

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, one of the first things the world turned to for solace and emotional strength was music. Over the next year, the YMCA and TSO worked together to continue supporting mental health and fostering a sense of community through a series of in-person and virtual partnered events.

“The Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the YMCA of Greater Toronto have come together to deliver unique programming for our communities at a time when the pandemic has shown us all the importance of focusing on our physical, mental and social health,” said Medhat Mahdy, President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Toronto. “I’m thrilled that our organization will have a hand in helping to introduce, or reintroduce, our great city to the incredible nature and inspiration that the orchestra brings. Together, we can harness the power of music and contribute to the well-being of people at all ages and stages of life.”

Enjoy a Musical Moment — Poolside!

As part of our new partnership with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO), we recorded a physically-distanced quartet on the pool deck at the Central YMCA. The resulting video is posted on the Toronto Star’s weekly Musical Moment feature.
