Exciting new Day Camp programs at YMCA Cedar Glen
Exciting Day Camp plans for summer 2016 include:
Farm Camp will be enhanced with a new greenhouse, a compost program and a chance to visit our organic apiary. An apiary is where bees and beehives produce honey. While visiting the apiary, campers will be able to watch the beekeepers at work from viewing buildings and learn about the importance of pollination. The new greenhouse, built with glass recycled from a YMCA squash court, is sure to keep the kids engaged.
Camp Scholar is a new program that will offer campers the chance to learn grade-level programming in math, science, and literacy. Taught by a certified Ontario teacher, Camp Scholar is a great way for campers to keep their minds and bodies active this summer.
Campers who enjoyed the Introduction to Hike & Bike Camp last year can continue to challenge themselves in the Intermediate Hike & Bike Camp. Using Cedar Glen’s mountain bike circuit and extensive trails, campers will prepare for an offsite excursion to nearby Albion Hills Conservation Area to test their skills on single-track mountain bike trails.
Choose Your Own Adventure is a unique program to Cedar Glen that allows campers to choose two daily activities that interest them. This is a great opportunity for campers to try new things and enjoy variety in their summer experience. Expanding on our success over the last two summers, campers and their families will be able to preselect activities before arriving at camp.
In order to accommodate our growing and popular programs, a 500-seat amphitheater has been built where campers and staff will start and end their day together. The amphitheater will be a day camp “hub” where campers can showcase their skills, staff can lead songs, and parents can experience the camp atmosphere.
