What to expect at a YMCA March Break Child Care program

12 February 2018 - by Sasha Smith
For kids, there’s nothing quite like March Break — no school, no early mornings, and plenty of time for excitement and adventure. But this much anticipated time in the school calendar is hardly a vacation for parents. For many moms and dads, March Break brings a great deal of pressure as they strive to impress their toughest critics with a weeklong schedule of activities. Sure, keeping your kids entertained is important, but you shouldn’t have to pull your hair out trying to plan their break.

If you’re in need of a stress-free (but fun!) March Break game plan, don’t worry; we’ve got this year totally sorted. Keep the youngsters happy — and your sanity intact — by sending them to your neighbourhood YMCA March Break Child Care program! Here’s a rundown of what your kiddo can expect when at the Y:

Kids lead the way

Instead of rigid schedules filled with a slew of activities based on what adults think children will enjoy, our March Break Child Care programs let kids lead the way. Over the break, your child will dive deeper into their unique interests as the facilitating Early Childhood Educators work with them to map out a week of stimulating, hands-on experiences they’re sure to love.

Learning made fun

Learning during off school hours is a bit of a hard sell for children, but when your kiddo spends the break with us, we’ll make sure their time away from the classroom is meaningful. The games and activities that kids enjoy each and every day at the Y will help them gain a greater awareness about the world and develop lifelong skills.

Time to unwind

At the Y, we balance the fun with relaxation time because school breaks are kids’ opportunity to get some relief from the stresses and structure the classroom. Whether your youngster’s version of “chill time” includes lounging in a cozy spot while getting lost in a book, playing board games with friends, or working on an art project, they’ll have ample chances to kick back and recharge before getting back to learning.

Creating lasting memories with friends

Since March Break Child Care programs draw kids from within the school at which they’re located, as well as from all over the surrounding area, kids have the opportunity to meet children they might never speak to or encounter in their normal environments. Through the everyday excitement of our program and group activities that challenge and engage youngsters, kids will quickly form supportive bonds with their peers while refining their social skills. Although we can’t guarantee your little one will leave the Y a social butterfly, they’re likely to create memories with a new friend (or two) this break.
