The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a charity, and it’s thanks to our incredible donors and volunteers that we can connect people with essential services, chances to better their lives, and a sense of community and belonging. Why I Give is a series designed to put the spotlight on these incredible change makers, sharing what inspires them to give back and what supporting our charity means to them.
Today, donor and Board member Wojciech Gryc shares why he believes the Y touches the lives of every Torontonian.
Inspiration to give
“The YMCA is an integral part of Toronto, providing services like child care, education for youth with learning disabilities, employment and immigration supports, and so much more.
“Few people realize that the YMCA of Greater Toronto is one of the largest Ys in the world. It is also the best-managed and most responsive charity I have ever been involved with. The Y has been extremely responsive to COVID-19 and I am grateful and proud of the programs they have launched to support people as we navigate the pandemic. It's just one example of how effective the charity is.
“The YMCA is proactive and constantly exploring new ways of helping the community. Its annual numbers are staggering, with hundreds of thousands of people relying on the Y every year. More importantly, the charity supports people in very concrete ways, from immigrant settlement, to education programs, child care, fitness... These are all programs that every single person will need at different stages of their lives!
“Toronto would be very different if the YMCA weren't around. This charity has been a core part of the city for over 170 years, and continues to evolve and transform itself. Directly or indirectly, the Y helps every single person in Toronto through its many programs.
“If that's not a reason to support the YMCA, I don't know what is.”
