How to make blow art cartoons with your kids
Just one of the super-fun programs your kids can look forward to at Y Day Camps is creative crafts! It’s where the Monets of tomorrow paint their first strokes — and where you’ll get your next round of “masterpieces” to adorn your fridge ;)
One of our new crafts is blow art cartoons. They’re perfect for 6 to 12 year-olds and they’re easy to do at home, which makes them perfect for you, too!
A little inspo: here's a blow art cartoon of a colourful butterfly!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Paper or card stock
- Watery paint
- Paint brushes
- Drinking straws
- Markers
- Optional extras:
- Googly eyes
- Feathers
- Glue
Let’s get started!
Like any craft involving paint, this one can get a little messy, especially if your kids are younger. Make sure you cover your table or whatever surface you’ll be working on; wear clothes you can get dirty and (if you have them) aprons; and have a roll of paper towel handy!
1. Lay out either your card stock or paper, mix up some of your watery paint, and arm your kid with a paint brush.
2. Using the brush, dab a little paint onto the paper. Right away, while it’s nice and wet, blow on the paint through a straw so it streaks out into pretty lines.
3. Once you get the hang of it, try making shapes and designs using different colours.
4. Set the paper aside and let it dry completely.
5. Use fine-tipped markers, googly eyes, and feathers to add the finishing touches to your cartoon!
You can also start by drawing a picture and adding the blow paint to spruce it up.
