Celebrating our YMCA City Builders: Desjardins Financial Group

YMCA City Builders are philanthropic leaders who have generously given 1 million dollars or more to date to the YMCA of Greater Toronto. On April 27, 2023, we proudly honoured Desjardins Financial Group as they were inducted into our growing circle of esteemed YMCA City Builders. In late 2019, Desjardins Financial Group partnered with the YMCA of Greater Toronto to deliver the Personal Finance: I’m In Charge financial literacy curriculum. Thanks to Desjardins’s continued generosity, this partnership now reaches hundreds of young people each year both online and in person through the Y’s Employment Services, Newcomer Information Centres, Newcomer Youth Settlement programs, and shelter and transitional housing sites. With this support, young people across the GTA are lifting their well-being by acquiring practical, financial knowledge and skills that will be with them for life.
Recognizing the challenges young people are facing in a rapidly changing workforce, Desjardins deepened its support and impact in early 2022, making a very meaningful commitment to co-develop with us a new national YMCA program called Youth for Entrepreneurship (Y4E). Today, working closely with our Y’s national program team, Desjardins is supporting thousands of youth ages 15 to 24 annually with practical knowledge and digital skills to start a small business or social enterprise. More than 2,110 young people in five provinces took part in Y4E’s first year, attending hands-on workshops both online and through their local YMCAs and sharing entrepreneurial awareness and resources with their peers through a national contest. For their outstanding leadership, it is our pleasure to recognize Desjardins Financial Group as a YMCA City Builder.
