The YMCA of Greater Toronto has once again been selected as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People! This is the third time we have received this recognition. This prestigious award is granted by Mediacorp Canada in partnership with editorial partners at Jobpostings Magazine.
Published annually since 2002, this competition recognizes the top employers that lead the nation in offering exceptional workplaces for young people. The selection process includes evaluating each employer on the programs, benefits and developmental opportunities they offer young people as well as looking at the overall workforce age composition. The winners are Canada’s leaders in attracting and retaining younger employees to their organizations.
Our commitment to young adults is reflected in our Strategic Plan, Strong Start, Great Future. We believe that by providing our young people with a supportive environment in which they can flourish, we create a foundation for a healthy, vibrant future.
To this end, we seek to attract and hire young people, to offer them meaningful benefits and recognition, and to provide opportunities for their long-term development. The average age of employees at our Association is 36 years old and over 45 per cent of our staff are under the age of 30. We know that many of our young staff members have their first job experience with the YMCA. Last summer we hired 740 young people with an average age of 21! Many of these young staff members go on to have long careers with the YMCA. They share their experiences with others and often use them to help other young people find meaningful jobs and opportunities.
