This weekend we celebrate women

03 April 2014 - by ymcablog
Happy International Women's Day! Saturday, March 8 is a day to celebrate the positive impact women have on their friends, family and community.

In honour of International Women's Day, we've put together a list of five of Canada's greatest female athletes. Share this list to show your community just how much you love and appreciate the women in your life!

5 OF CANADA'S GREATEST WOMEN ATHLETES

1. Christine Sinclair

Having competed in multiple FIFA World Cups and Olympics Games, Christine Sinclair is one of Canada's greatest soccer players. She set a world record when she scored six goals at the London 2012 Olympics, which helped win Canada the bronze medal in women's soccer. Sinclair has also been nominated five times for FIFA World Player of the Year.

2. Hayley Wickenheiser

Hayley Wichenheiser is one of the most recognizable names in women's ice hockey. Wickenheiser has competed in several Olympics Games, most recently holding the Canadian flag at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Amazingly, she has also represented Canada as a member of the women's softball team at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Wickenheiser was given the Order of Canada in 2011 for her achievements as an athlete and for her contributions to the growth of women's hockey.
