The spaces that make the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre YMCA unique

01 December 2020 - by Lucy Schmidt
Every YMCA is different and a lot of time and research went into planning the design of your Y to ensure it meets the needs of your community. The Y spaces are designed to be both functional and versatile to support a variety of healthful programs, and to offer an open, spacious and welcoming environment.

We are excited to show you the types of spaces that make up your Y and some recent pictures so that you can see how construction is progressing.

1. The Main Hall

This magnificent space is just steps from the SmartVMC Bus Terminal and will be a vibrant community space for the public. On the left behind the tall glass wall is the Y aquatics area, where parents can watch their child’s first strokes from a comfortable lounge area. A two-story green wall will cover the panels on the right hand side, filling the air with fresh oxygen.

2. The Aquatics Hall

Swimming provides many healthful benefits and in this beautiful aquatics hall with two-story windows and a wood-paneled ceiling, you will feel that much more inclined to make refreshing a dip part of your routine.

You’ll enjoy surprisingly fresh air when you take a lap in our 25-metre lap pool or training pool thanks to exhausts that expulse chlorine air. The training pool, pictured here, will have a moveable floor and will allow for a variety of programming for all ages and stages.

4. Studios

If you like the energy of a group experience, we’ll see you in the studios or on the outdoor terrace for group fitness classes such as YMCA Arriba, yoga, bootcamp, and more! Maybe you’ll even be inspired to become an instructor. *Wink wink*

5. Individual Conditioning

Your Y boasts a nearly 9,386 -square-foot space dedicated to individual conditioning. You’ll be able to improve your strength and cardio with a selection of free weights, weight machines, electric cardio machines, and even a functional workout station.

And there’s more!

Your Y will also feature a child care centre with an age-in-place program, a double-gymnasium, express lockers for quick get-in and get-out workouts, youth spaces, whirlpools in the plus areas and more!

We hope learning about the spaces that make up your Y has made you even more excited for your YMCA’s opening day! Stay tuned to our newsletter so you can be the first to receive the latest news, promotions, and opportunities to get involved with your new Y.

We look forward to opening all amenities for members to enjoy, but because of COVID-19, some amenities may not be available when the centre first opens.
