Summer 2015 Day Camp Preview

31 October 2014 - by ymcablog

There were lots of new happenings at Cedar Glen this past summer. We saw the opening of the new pool. We saw the birth of many new day camp programs like Discovery Camp and Discovery Aquatics Camp for campers ages 4-5. Another new program that was created this past summer was our “Choose Your Own Adventure Camp” for campers ages 6-12. This gave campers the opportunity to choose unique activities based on their interests. This past summer was also the beginning of our Farm Camp where campers had the opportunity to get their hands dirty and learn about the importance and impact of agriculture, harvesting vegetables, and using organic produce to prepare delicious food.

We were also very lucky to partner with several other local partners this summer and provide specialty camps. We partnered with The Directors Cut, providing a film making and Claymation camp. We also partnered with Phoenix Martial Arts, providing a one week introduction to martial arts.

This upcoming summer holds lots of new excitement as well including an extra week of summer! There will be 10 weeks of summer in 2015 and we are adding many new programs to our day camp regime! Campers can look forward to Environmental Science, Hike and Bike, and Natural Arts. These programs were a part of the Choose Your Own Adventure Camp and have now been added as a full time program. In Environmental Science campers can look forward to exploring conservation, ecology, and sustainability. Hike and Bike will be a new and exciting program where campers will have the opportunity to explore new trails and hikes every day. One hike each week will involve a lunch cook out and campers will also have the opportunity to go mountain biking up to three times a week. Natural Arts will be great for campers who want to explore their natural environment and find resources for environmentally friendly art!

This summer we are also looking forward to a brand new Youth Leadership Program across all day camps. There will be a two week Jr. Youth Leadership program open to campers ages 12-14 and we are introducing a brand new four week Youth Leadership camp open to campers ages 14-16. The new four week program will consist of 2 weeks of day camp at Cedar Glen, the third week will be a one week over night at Cedar Glen with the rest of the Youth Leaders from other YMCA GTA Summer Day Camps and the fourth week will be spent back at Cedar Glen volunteering with the Day Camp Staff Team.

Summer 2015 will be here before we know it and there is a lot to look forward to! Hope to see lots of new and returning faces this summer! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at Cedar Glen any time!

See you in the summer!
