1. Visit your local pool
Who needs an ocean when you're only a short walk away from your local pool! Find the YMCA health and fitness centre closest to you to hit up a pool and get splashing with your kids.
2. Explore your city
Many people live in the same neighbourhood for years without ever discovering some of its hidden gems. For instance, did you know that there are several hiking/cycling trails in the City of Toronto? Take a closer look at your community to explore spaces you never knew existed.
3. Try new dishes
Bring a different culture into your home by cooking a meal that originated in a country you've always wanted to visit. For example, you could attempt an Indian lamb curry, or try rolling your own sushi. You'll more than likely discover some new dinner staples that your whole family will love.
4. Relax with some yoga
Yoga is a very effective stress reliever, and can be a great method of relaxation during your staycation. Yoga also help with posture, flexibility and strength. The YMCA offers yoga classes at many of its health and fitness centres, check your local Y's fitness class schedule to see if it's offered at your centre.
5. Disconnect
Literally...disconnect all of your mobile devices for a few hours during your staycation, and enjoy some time without constantly checking your work email and social media. You wouldn't be so quick to 'check in' if you were at a holiday destination, so don't be so hesitant to 'check out' when you spend a few vacation days at home.
