Mardi and Hannah (first time International Department Interns) signing in! Expect to see more from us throughout the summer as events unfold with the talented youth from Colombia.
We’re pretty excited to be working with our fantastic mentor Shayna who will be leading us through the turmoils of event planning, and we will no doubt have a new wealth of knowledge and experience just in time for school in September. As two Toronto born and raised youth, this is an amazing opportunity for an exchange of ideas and inspiration from people our own age, and this summer will undeniably be a defining moment of our adolescence. Not many people are lucky enough to be a part of such a significant program within the YMCA, and every life will be impacted in this experience. We hope for only positive outcomes.
A little bit about us – Hannah and I were both 2010 CIBC Youthvision Scholarship winners and have gone on to post-secondary education in Toronto. Hannah currently attends York University, Glendon Campus and is studying Political Science and Spanish. You would never guess she has a black-belt in karate, and aside from that, she is also fluent in French! She has a special interest in International Development and this will surely be a significant step in her future. I look forward to working side-by-side with her this summer.
As for myself, I attend University of Toronto, St. George Campus and study Political Science and Ethics. A little known fact is that I identify as a closet-artist (If that makes sense), but otherwise my time is taken up by soccer and work at Central YMCA. I’m particularly interested in the future of multilateral development programs and it will be fascinating to meet youth who have made such a difference in their local communities.
Throughout the summer, we will be updating the blog with tidbits of information regarding the Colombian youth and their experience in Toronto, so stay tuned because they are set to arrive next Tuesday night!
