Thank you to all the kids (and adults!) who took up our challenge to get a jump on summer and virtually walk across Canada. Nine-year-old Adam was our fearless leader and made it all the way to Vancouver!
Eleven-year-old Nazvin also took up the challenge, and here’s what he had to say about getting active.
Are you using your pedometer every day? Are you more active now than before you started using it?
Yes. I take my WeMuv pedometer with me every day to school and the gym in my apartment complex. Does it make me more active than before? Yes, especially with my pedometer on me. The reason that I am so active now than before is because I can earn steps (points) so I can unlock new WeMuv games to play on the website.
Does it make getting active more fun when you can see your progress online and are part of a group?
Yes. It makes being active more fun when I can see how active I am online and the online world would really know how active I am and I feel good about that.
Do you think it's important for kids to be active and healthy?
Yes! I think this because when you get more older, you might be part of a house league such as baseball, football etc. If you’re active now, you will be active when you get older.
What's your favourite activity at the YMCA?
It is and always will be taekwondo. I was doing this sport since I was 6 years old. I also love playing badminton at the YMCA.
Do you have any tips for other kids to help them get more active?
Use your free time at home for exercising and going to the YMCA to do sports like soccer, basketball and swimming. Also, buy a pedometer — especially pedometers suited for kids so they can be more active just like all the other active kids in the world.
Thank you to everyone who joined the challenge. Keep on moving — every step counts!
