Young brothers Matthew, age 12, and Adam, age 9, are stepping up with the YMCA's Get a Jump on Summer Challenge and having a blast. Here’s what they had to say about getting active.
Why are you doing the Get a Jump on Summer Challenge?
Matthew: I'd like to exercise even more than I am used to exercising. I want to stay as fit as I am now.
Adam: Because my parents told me to. And it is awesome and I've never recorded my steps ever.
What’s the hardest part about doing the Get a Jump on Summer Challenge?
Matthew: Finding time to exercise and finding what to do to exercise.
Adam: To remember to keep my step counter on me and keeping ahead of my brother.
What is your advice to other kids who want to stay active this summer?
Matthew: Don't watch video games or TV all day long! Get out as much as you can! Find something you enjoy!
Adam: Get a bicycle! It is so much fun to ride! Don't be lazy! Eat lots of meat and veggies! Invite your friends over to play outside!
Join the challenge now! It's easy to register and record your steps. There are also fun avatars and games — with more unlocked the more steps you take.
