Getting active can seem daunting, but it's never too late to make healthy choices. Today, get started on your journey to a healthier lifestyle by trying the Scarborough YMCA's Tai Chi class at 1:00 pm. 



What is Tai Chi? 


Tai Chi is a martial art form that fuses physical activity, breathing techniques, meditation practices, and awareness exercises. Your instructor will guide you through sequences of slow, smooth, dance-like motions that help your mind and body connect.



How will I benefit? 


Your balance, coordination, and mental concentration will be put to the test in Tai Chi classes. Through deep breathing and circular motions, you'll relieve tension in your muscles and joints, making you feel refreshed and revitalized.


Because Tai Chi is hugely popular among our older members, you'll also have the opportunity to meet some new people during this class. Bond over your shared experiences and interests, and create some new memories with new friends!



How will my needs be met? 


Tai Chi is a low-impact form of exercise performed in slow motion, making it an ideal starting point for those who are brand new to physical fitness. The movements you'll do in this class are gentle, requiring your muscles and joints to relax and loosen up, rather than flex or strain. Breathing and body awareness are the focus here, rather than the motions and poses themselves, making it easy to adjust the class to cater to your strengths. Your certified instructor can also teach you modified movements that will let you build up to more difficult ones.
