Family-friendly fall activities!

07 October 2014 - by ymcablog
It is the perfect time of year to get outside and enjoy the beautiful scenery as the leaves change colours. Before it gets too cold outside, we've put together a few great activities that the whole family can enjoy!

Geocaching:

Geocaching is an outdoor, treasure hunting adventure! Beginning in 2000 as a niche group of geocachers, the game has grown to become a fun activity for all ages to enjoy. A geocache is a hidden stash that anyone can go find, you just need a GPS device and the coordinates of its location - it’s that easy! Once you find the hidden treasure, you:

  1. Sign the logbook and record the adventure you had finding it

  2. Either leave the stash as it is, or, take something from it and leave something of equal or greater value in its place for the next group of geocachers to find!

Outdoor Adventure Park:

A zip lining or treetop obstacle excursion waits for you less than an hour’s drive from Toronto! Spend the afternoon chasing that adrenaline rush – work your way through an aerial course, navigate through fun obstacles, bungee jump or experience some of Canada’s longest zip lines. Your kids will have a great adventure while you create amazing memories.

Try out one of these family friendly day adventures before the season ends:
Treetop Trekking
Scenic Caves
Treetop Eco-Adventure Park

Horseback riding:

Take in the beautiful fall colours on horseback! There are tonnes of great ranches across the GTA, each with unique trails for you to enjoy. It’s a great activity to do with kids, giving them the opportunity to experience their first ride, interact with the horses and appreciate the scenery. Whether you’re an experienced or beginner rider, you’ll have a memorable day with family or friends. Follow up your ride with a thank-you treat for your horse and some hot apple cider for yourself!

Check out one of these ranches:
Wildwood Ranch
Horseplay Niagara
Ride the Ranch
Claireville Ranch

Apple picking:

Apple picking is a great activity you can enjoy as a family. It’s an opportunity to support a local farm while also teaching your kids about where their food comes from. Many farms include additional attractions like hay rides, pumpkin patches and farm animals, not to mention the apple goodies available for purchase– pies, jam and cider! Following your orchard outing, you can spend some time in the kitchen turning your freshly picked apples into delicious desserts.

Here are a few orchards to check out:
Brooks Farms
Dixie Orchards
Pingles Farm
Watson Farms
