A fun game to pass the time — and work your memory muscles!
This YMCA Day Camp game is the perfect solution! All you need to play is your imagination.
How to play the Birthday Party Memory Game
To really test your memory, this game is best played with a big group. It’s also supposed to be about celebrating a Birthday, after all, so why not set up a virtual play date for your kids and their friends’ families? It’s easy to play over video chat.
- Begin the game by nominating your Birthday party host. The host gets to choose the party theme and a category of things that people will need to bring to the party that fits the theme. For example, maybe your category is jungle animals.
- The host starts by saying what they’re going to bring to the party: “I am going to bring my tiger.”
- The next person must repeat what the host said and add a new item that they will bring: “Dad is going to bring a tiger…and I will bring a giraffe!”
- The next person repeats what the first two people are bringing, and adds their own item: “Dad is going to bring a tiger, Kai is going to bring a giraffe, and I will bring an elephant!”
- Keep going until everyone has shared what they’ll be bringing.
Tailor the game for your players
Depending on how old your kids are, you might want to customize the game a little. If you’re playing with younger kids, and they’re having a hard time remembering what everyone else is bringing, give them clues. And if you’re playing with older kids, tell them everyone has to bring two or three items to the party. That way, they’ll have to go around a few times and remember a longer list of items.
