Volunteer spotlight: Meet Mureth Rhone

Mureth Rhone has over 20 years of management experience with extensive knowledge of pensions and other savings and wealth plans. In 2021, she became one of the first volunteer mentors to join the YMCA Black Achievers Mentorship program. She continues to impact the lives of Black youth today, working with current cohorts and staying in touch with her former mentees.
The Black Achievers Mentorship program supports Black youth in grades 9 through 12 in achieving academic excellence, leadership, and career development by offering mentorship, educational workshops, scholarships, networking opportunities, and more. Staff and volunteer mentors help youth achieve their full potential and become active members of their communities.
“Mureth has consistently gone above and beyond in her role by supporting program events and workshop sessions and taking on other roles as a judge in debate and public speaking and more,” says Samantha, a Black Achievers Mentorship program Case Manager. “Her guidance and commitment to the development of others has made a significant difference in the lives of those she has mentored. She has not only shared her knowledge and expertise but has also fostered a sense of confidence and motivation that empowers our youth to aim high, reach their full potential, and shine. What truly sets Mureth apart is her genuine care for personal and professional growth and her remarkable ability to listen, understand, and provide thoughtful advice tailored to each individual's needs. She is not only professional, but is deeply compassionate, and someone you can easily talk to.”
In her spare time, Mureth likes listening to music and is a member of her local church. In addition to volunteering at the YMCA she has also volunteered with building homes in the Scarborough community, demonstrating her desire to give back to the community she represents.
If you’re considering volunteering at the YMCA, Mureth wants you to know it’s a welcoming and rewarding environment, and the staff and management are wholly committed to its goals. It’s also a great opportunity to support — and learn from — our youths!
Thank you, Mureth, for your significant contributions to the YMCA Black Achievers Mentorship program!
