YMCA of Greater Toronto Recognized as One of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People

24 January 2023

Toronto – January 24, 2023 – The YMCA of Greater Toronto is thrilled to be selected as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People for 2023 – the 13th year the charity has received this recognition.

“Our charity prides itself on being a place for young people to reach their potential, whether it’s to support themselves through school, start their careers, or find a sense of purpose,” says Medhat Mahdy, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Toronto. “No matter a young person’s career aspirations, they can find valuable work experience at the Y while being a spark that helps others in our communities shine bright.”

The YMCA of Greater Toronto offers an enriching environment for young employees to fuel their passions and careers. It offers a variety of employment opportunities including early childhood educators, lifeguards, camp counsellors, shelter workers, call centre staff, IT professionals and more, with more than one quarter of full-time and 45% of part-time employees under the age of 30.

The YMCA of Greater Toronto nurtures a positive work environment for young people in a variety of ways.

  • YMCA of Greater Toronto recognizes that three references from a young person without any prior work history can inadvertently create barriers during the hiring process and allows candidates to submit other voluntary, committee or school references in addition to employment references.
  • Full- and part-time employees at YMCA of Greater Toronto can also apply for partial education reimbursements from the organization's Staff Development Fund for specialized courses and university and college programs.

In addition to being among the 2023 Canada’s Top Employers for Young People, the YMCA of Greater Toronto was also recognized as one of one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers in 2023 and one of Canada’s Greenest employers in 2022.

The YMCA of Greater Toronto offers a range of employment opportunities for a variety of roles at over 440 locations across the Greater Toronto Area. Check out exciting career opportunities currently posted at the Y at https://ymcagta.org/join-our-team/employment-opportunities.
