Maria Smith and Eric Tripp are committed to supporting their community. So when they learned a new YMCA would be going up in their neighbourhood, they knew they wanted to be part of it.
“We have a very personal connection to our city and our community which motivates us to assist organizations like the YMCA,” explains Eric. “The Y’s strategy is consistent with our values. There is symmetry between the strategy, physical infrastructure and programming and how that aligns with the needs of the city.”
He’s referring to the Y’s Strong Start, Great Future Campaign, which plans to bring 10 new Ys to communities across the GTA so the Y can help more people who need support. Eric and Maria have committed an incredible $500,000 to Strong Start, Great Future in support of the new Kingston Road Y, which will open to their Beach neighbourhood in 2018. They are excited about what this means for everyone living in their community.
“The Y will help provide a comprehensive set of programs and activities that meet the needs of a broad cross section of the community, particularly those that are facing financial challenges,” explains Maria, adding that she and Eric are fortunate that they can help make this happen and encourage others who are able to contribute as well.
“Supporting community-based charitable organizations like the Y is really a responsibility for those who can,” says Eric. “Continual reinvestment by community based charities is a core requirement for the kind of city in which we all want to reside.”
We couldn’t be more thankful for their support.
