Hosting a third party event in support of the Y is easy. Donate funds from a birthday, baseball tournament or garage sale and make a difference in the lives of children, teens and families in your community. Here's how.
Annual funds raised will help get more kids healthy and active at the Y, possibly by supporting vital programs and services, or helping provide financial assistance so more children and families can access our Health and Fitness centres, Child Care programs and Camps. For example, last year:
- More than 16% of children at YMCA Child Cares received support when the family experienced unexpected financial hardships
- 58% of students received financial assistance to attend the YMCA Academy.
- More than 160,000 people participated in our Health and Fitness programs and more than 12,000 children learned how to swim. Almost a quarter of participants (24%) received financial assistance.
- 20% of children received financial assistance to attend Day Camp.
Donations to our Strong Start, Great Future Campaign will help us build 10 new YMCAs across the GTA in neighbourhoods that need us most. We want to help more of the people who need our support.
For example, if your combined federal and provincial tax credit equals 45%, a $5,000 cash gift to the YMCA of Greater Toronto will result in tax savings of $2,250, so the actual cost of the gift to you is only $2,750! The amount you may claim in charitable donations in any one year is limited to 75% of your net income for that year and any excess may be carried forward for up to five years.
If you donate a gift of securities to the YMCA of Greater Toronto, the tax benefits are two-fold. First, you will receive a tax receipt for the fair market value of the donation in the amount of the closing trading price on the day the YMCA of Greater Toronto receives the security. Second, your donation is exempt from the capital gains tax that typically applies to the sale of a security.
