Program Description

YMCA Employment Resource Centres offer a variety of services to help youth and adults gain employment.  Job seekers can benefit from our free employment programs and resources, attend free workshops and get one-on-one personalized support from our professional staff.  

Major Duties

  • Assist members in researching employment opportunities.
  • Research and print job openings and maintain job posting boards in centre.
  • Organize and research new resources for job seekers.
  • Conduct tours and explain services to new members.
  • Help members with the use of computers, fax machines, photocopiers, etc.
  • Create bulletin boards to promote workshops, services, resources, topics, etc.
  • Make referrals to other community services based on member’s needs.


  • Minimum age 15.
  • For volunteers 16 years of age or older: Successful applicants to this role will need to provide a Police Reference Check from their local police service before their first day of volunteering and every three years on the anniversary of their first day of volunteering.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to relate with diverse clientele.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; be sensitive to client’s/member’s needs.
  • Basic knowledge of computer skills and office equipment.
  • Knowledge of English and a second language an asset.
  • Ability to work in and multi-task within a team setting in a fast-paced environment.
  • Acceptance and adherence to YMCA values and local centre’s policies and procedures.


  • Learn about job search resources available in your community and increase your job search skills.
  • Make a difference in the lives of people in your community by supporting their employment goals.
  • Develop interpersonal and communication skills with members and other staff.
  • Learn about diversity at the YMCA and meet new people from all walks of life.
  • Gain valuable Canadian work experience.
  • Be a part of the YMCA team and promote the YMCA Mission, Vision and Values.
