Nature and scope
The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a charity offering opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership. The Toronto Scarborough Town Centre Court is one of nine full service health and fitness centres across the Greater Toronto area. The Centre provides a full range of services and community programs to more than 8,000 members, including children, youth and adults, who represent the diversity of Toronto and its communities.
The Individual Conditioning unit requires the delivery of quality service to the members of the Scarborough YMCA through the effective operations of the conditioning, free weights, personal training, fitness assessment and health enhancement programs. The Program Representative Individual Conditioning, Membership Plus provides member service through ensuring that members have a safe and enjoyable experience while using the conditioning spaces.
Provides direct delivery in the individual conditioning area with a focus on building and facilitating member relationships.
Helps members to achieve their personal health and fitness related goals by referring them to various programs and services as appropriate (e.g. mYfitness, Personal Training)
Provides information about other YMCA areas and programs, such as group fitness classes, sports, children’s programs or other services in the building (Employment, Child Care) or assists members in finding answers to questions by referring them to correct sources.
Ensures outstanding programs and service are provided in a warm, friendly, clean, and safe environment.
Cleans and maintains equipment during shifts and to report any repairs or work orders to supervisor
Conducts Program area counts or inventory checks as required
Adheres to Priority S.A.M. and Workplace Health & Safety standards, specifically focusing on the Conditioning and Free Weights areas.
Actively participates in scheduled programs, meetings and special events.
Provides overall support to Member experience in Membership Plus/Conditioning Space areas as needed, including replenishment of beverage area, ensures lounge area and workout areas are maintained, and responds to member requests or concerns.
In collaboration with individual program members, program volunteers and YMCA program staff, assists and encourages program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location.
Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.
Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Children's Aid Society.
Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
Other duties as assigned.
- Kinesiology/physical education degree an asset
- Knowledge of physical fitness normally acquired through completion of courses in physical education or a related field and/or previous experience
- Participation in or completion of Personal Trainer Certification (i.e. CPTN, ACE, etc.) an asset
- Certified Fitness Consultant (CFC) an asset
- Participation in group fitness, individual conditioning and sports an asset
- Ability to instruct various group fitness classes an asset
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR an asset
- Well developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
- Excellent written communication skills
- Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
- Flexibility regarding schedule, including days, evenings and weekends.
