Nature and scope

The Toronto Central Grosvenor St. YMCA Centre is one of eight YMCA Health and Fitness centres in the GTA, providing a wide variety of health, fitness and recreation programs for a vibrant community of over 10,000 members who represent the diversity of the Toronto community.


  • Heavy Duty Cleaning including shower areas, floors, walls and equipment
  • Operates cleaning equipment including scrubbing machines, buffers and burnishes, pressure washer and vacuums
  • Undertake cleaning operations as per instructions of the supervisor, which may include Light duty cleaning as needed
  • Adheres to all YMCA of Greater Toronto Policies and to Priority SAM cleaning and maintenance standards.
  • Adheres to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHIMIS safety procedures and guidelines.

  • Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association.  Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.

  • Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Children's Aid Society.

  • Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Completion of high school education

  • Minimum of three year “hands-on”  heavy duty cleaning experience in a commercial establishment

  • Knowledge of laundry operations preferred

  • Ability to work in physically demanding environment

  • Previous front-line, proven performance & relationship building in customer service

  • Ability to work independently

  • Well developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members including participants, staff and volunteers; excellent written communication skills

  • Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity

Job offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a Police Records Check. Within the first four months and every three years thereafter, a Vulnerable Police Records Check is required.
