Nature and scope
YMCA of Greater Toronto’s Camping and Outdoor Education department offers the highest quality Day Camp programs for children and youth in approximately 50 locations across the Greater Toronto Area. Our Summer Day Camps offer numerous programs for 4-16 year olds that are safe, engaging, fun and contributing to the YMCA of Greater Toronto.
Our Day Camp Program Coordinators will provide leadership to program quality and integrity across the Day Camp locations. They a vital role in the set-up, training, and support of Day Camp programs but ensuring that program manuals are being followed and that camp locations have the equipment and supplies required to run high quality programs. In addition, the Program Coordinator will spend time in the warehouse inventorying current supplies, packing program kits and assisting in monitoring the program budget. The successful candidate must be a team player, driven and self-motivated, well organized, have excellent communication skills and committed to a high level of customer service.
Responsibilities
Supports Camp Directors to ensure their camps are running programs in line with program manuals and meeting parent’s expectations by visiting camp locations.
Provide feedback and support, ensure all paperwork associated with program feedback is kept up to date and well organized, communicating any performance challenges to Camp Directors and Senior Directors to ensure we are providing our families with the highest level of customer service
Provides specialized program delivery at assigned camp locations, which may include outdoor activities such wood burning and/or specialized art programs such as imprinting, cooking etc. to ensure high program quality.
Develops high-quality Day Camp programs by working with the Day Camp Senior Leadership team to identify new activities to support in updating program manuals, to ensure all programs are fun and engaging.
Develops and implements high-quality program training by working with the Day Camp Senior Leadership team to identify training and development needs, assists in the development of new training tools as well as supporting in the delivery of day camp program training to all day camp staff to ensure they are prepared for their roles.
Assists with purchasing program supplies by working with Regional Managers/Directors/Senior Directors to ensure all program and safety supplies associated with the programs are purchased and adequately stocked prior to and throughout the summer to ensure our programs are high quality and safe.
Achieves assigned budget; monitors expenditures and ensures purchases are within camp budget; submits all invoices on a weekly basis to ensure they are processed in a timely manner.
Ensures all assigned administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time including all day camp program quality audits and reconciling and submitting YMCA visa by assigned deadline, as well as supporting in the collection of paperwork from Directors on a weekly basis.
Supports with creating and maintaining a positive camp environment through demonstrating a team-player mentality, supporting colleagues and sharing the responsibility of keeping the day camp warehouse environment clean and organized.
Acts as a positive role model for children, youth and fellow staff through embodying the values of the YMCA, following all YMCA day camp guidelines, YMCA policies and procedures, Ontario Camps Association (OCA) Standards.
Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.
Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education (or currently enrolled) child, youth or recreation preferred
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in children’s programs
- Experience in YMCA Summer Day Camps preferred
- Experience in warehouse inventory and organization is an asset
- Experience delivering program training preferred
- Experience developing programs
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C”
- Access to vehicle and valid license with ability to travel within GTA required

- Must have access to a vehicle and willing to travel within region
