Pricing for Registered Programs at Brampton, Oshawa, and Central

For a complete list of all changes, please visit the Brampton, Oshawa, or Central pages.

Why we're making changes

Over the past five years, our Registered Programs have become substantially more costly to deliver. The all-inclusive Registered Program option, which lets children sign up for an unlimited number of Registered programs, is currently excluding thousands of children from accessing even one program due to long wait lists. Our new model will allow you to register your child for as many Registered Programs as you choose at a cost of $16 per program, per month. At just under $4 per lesson, this new model still provides terrific value, and it will allow us to reduce our waitlists and create new and exciting instructional programs that more children will be able to enjoy.

Our newest Centre of Community, the Cooper Koo YMCA, has been using this model since it opened last year with great success. We’re now piloting the same model at these three other centres, and will be assessing how the changes impact members’ experiences before rolling them out at all of our other centres across the GTA.

Yes. This new model will be in place at our pilot centres for the next year, and then we’ll prepare to roll the model out to the remaining centres. We’ll be assessing how the changes impact members’ experiences and, as with all of our programs and services, we’ll make adjustments based on the feedback we receive.

Affected programs

Registered Programs are instructor-led and require you to sign up to reserve a spot. These Registered Programs include Swim lessons, Karate, Taekwondo, Soccer, Basketball, Multisport, and Dance. As of your next YMCA membership anniversary, each Registered Program will cost $16 per month. Drop-in programs are not supervised by YMCA staff, and do not have a sign-up or registration process; to participate, all you need to do is show up. These drop-in programs include Family Gym, Family Swim, and Family Sports, and they are included in your YMCA membership.

Absolutely! We offer a variety of programs for kids and families that will still be included in your membership, such as Family Gym, Family and/or Rec swim, and a wide variety of Family Sports programs. Each centre also has a few unique programs and amenities that will remain included in your membership.

Yes. Your membership will no longer include a Registered Option, so it will be reduced by $19 per month. Instead, you will pay $16 per month per program.

No. As long as you’re using your “home” Y more than 50% of the time and you’ve added the Registered Option to your membership, your monthly rates will remain the same.

How your monthly billing will be impacted

You'll continue to make your monthly membership payments using whichever method you already have in place. We'll automatically adjust the fees for your Registered Programs on your upcoming YMCA membership anniversary. For example, if you joined the YMCA on May 10th 2016, your payments will be automatically adjusted on May 10th 2017. We’ll send you an email reminder of the change in advance.

Since Registered Programs will now cost $16 each, we’re removing the Registered Option from your Family membership. Now, your monthly fee will be for a regular Family membership — that is, $19 less per month — and you can choose how many Registered Programs you’d like to add. We’ll automatically update your payment records to reduce your membership fee by $19 per month, and your new monthly fee will take effect on your membership anniversary. That payment will also automatically include a $16 fee for every Registered Program your child is registered in.

As our program agreement form indicates, we occasionally need to adjust our prices. These adjustments are made to ensure our pricing reflects the value of our programs, services, and amenities. We respect that you need sufficient notice to manage your budget, which is why your fees will only change after your YMCA anniversary, upon renewal of your membership. You’ll also receive an email notification in advance of any changes made to your membership, so you’ll have an opportunity to raise any questions or concerns you may have.

Yes. As of your YMCA membership anniversary, each Registered Program on your membership will be offered at a reduced rate of $10 per month. We'll notify you in writing, and you'll have an opportunity to change the Registered Programs on your membership before we change your monthly fees. These changes will also be made in conjunction with your regular membership review meetings, so you’ll have an opportunity to discuss them with our staff and express any concerns or needs you may have.

We’ll still offer financial assistance for those who can’t afford to pay their full membership fees. We’ll also offer lower fees for Registered Programs for members who receive assistance so as many people as possible can access our programs. Finally, the General Managers at each centre will be available to meet with families who will be significantly impacted by these changes; if you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to them.

We determined a total cost for each Registered Program for the full year, and then divided that cost into twelve equal payments for your convenience. Charging per month, instead of per year, lets you change your Registered Programs when you want.

Yes, you can withdraw from Registered Programs during your vacation and re-register when you get back. However, we can’t guarantee your space will still be available upon your return, so you may be placed on a waitlist. Please also note that we can’t issue refunds if your child didn’t attend all of the classes in a given month.

Making changes to your membership

You can change your program registrations at any time by visiting the membership desk or calling 1-800-223-8024. Your regular monthly payments will be automatically updated on your YMCA membership anniversary to reflect a $16 fee for each Registered Program on your membership. So, if you’d like to adjust your program registrations, please do so before your next membership anniversary. If your membership anniversary is in April and you’d like to adjust your Registered Programs, please do so by March 8th. Any changes you make to your Registered Programs after March 8th will be reflected in your May payment. Please note that our Registered Programs fill up quickly, so your child may be placed on a waitlist until a spot opens up.

Just visit the membership desk or call our contact centre at 1-800-223-8024. We'll update your records, and the change to your Registered Program fees will be reflected on your payment for the following month. For example, if your membership anniversary passes in March but you change your Registered Programs in April, you’ll be charged the revised fee on your May payment. If you’d like to cancel registrations, we require a minimum of two days notice prior to the date on which you make your monthly payments. If you’d like to add a Registered Program, please note that these programs fill up quickly, so your child may be placed on a waitlist until a spot opens up.

Family memberships are for two adults age 22 and up and their children, who can be up to the age of 21. Everyone on the membership must live in the same household. Everyone on the membership will be able to use all of our amenities — including the pool, gym, and family play areas — and drop-in programs, including Family Gym, Family and/or Rec swim, a wide variety of Family Sports programs, and all of our adult drop-in group fitness classes. Any Registered Programs you add will cost $16 per month.

When you cancel your membership, your children will be automatically withdrawn from their Registered Programs and you won’t be charged for them anymore. However, we can’t issue refunds if your child didn’t attend all of the classes in a given month. Please also note that your monthly billing won’t be affected until your YMCA membership anniversary; you will continue to pay the same rate until you renew your membership on your yearly anniversary. However, if you cancel your membership, the new Registered Program fees will apply when you renew it.

New Young Adult Memberships at Brampton and Oshawa

For a complete list of all changes, please visit the Brampton and Oshawa pages.

Your membership will change from “Young Adult” to “Adult General” on your membership anniversary the year after you turn 30. So, if you join the YMCA on March 9th, 2017, and turn 30 on May 10th, 2017, your price increase will happen on March 9th, 2018.

We’ll automatically change you to a “Young Adult” membership, and your price will go down when you make your first regularly scheduled payment after March 1st, 2017. For example, if you joined the YMCA on December 19th, and make your monthly payments on the 19th of each month, your price decrease will take place as of March 19th, 2017.

We might not have your date of birth on file. Simply bring government-issued photo ID to the membership desk, and we'll change your membership to the Young Adult category.

New 2-Person Memberships at Brampton and Oshawa

For a complete list of all changes, please visit the Brampton and Oshawa pages.

Both individuals on a 2-Person membership must live at the same address. At least one of the two members must be 22 years old or over, and both must use the same payment method.

If at least one of the two people on your membership is 22 or older, we'll automatically convert you to a new 2-person membership. If you had a Family General membership, your monthly payments will be reduced from $81 to $69 per month (plus tax); if you had a Family Plus membership, your payments will be reduced from $122 to $110 per month (plus tax). These new rates will begin automatically on your next regularly scheduled payment date in April.

Your new 2-Person membership rates will begin automatically, starting with your regularly scheduled payment date in April. If you had a Family General membership, your monthly payments will be reduced from $81 to $69 per month (plus tax); if you had a Family Plus membership, your payments will be reduced from $122 to $110 per month (plus tax).

If you live with another YMCA member and each have individual memberships, you will not automatically be converted to a 2-person membership. Please stop by the membership desk, and we’ll help you change your membership category and update your payment record.

If you have a Family membership consisting of one adult over the age of 22 and one under 14 years who's in Registered Programs, we'll automatically convert you to a 2-person membership on your next YMCA membership anniversary. At that time, you’ll no longer pay the Registered Option, and can instead choose which programs to register for at a rate of $16 per month, per program.
