YMCA of Greater Toronto, City of Mississauga, and Oxford Properties announce future home of the Mississauga YMCA in Square One District development
Relocation to new modern space in growing community hub is planned for early 2027 and will continue to offer health and fitness, child care, and day camp programming for Mississauga residents
Toronto – April 9, 2025 – The YMCA of Greater Toronto (“the Y”), the City of Mississauga (“the City”), and Oxford Properties (“Oxford”) are pleased to announce that the Mississauga YMCA will be moving to a new modern space at Square One Shopping Centre, opening in early 2027 as part of the visionary new mixed-use neighbourhood, Square One District.
With $15 million in funding support from the City, the move ensures a long-term, sustainable Y presence in downtown Mississauga as part of a neighbourhood of the future, allowing the charity to continue serving the community for decades to come.
“The community has been eagerly awaiting this news and we think finding a location this close to our current Mississauga YMCA in the heart of downtown is the best possible scenario,” said Lesley Davidson, President & CEO, YMCA of Greater Toronto. “With our wide range of programming for people of all ages, we’re designing the new space to encourage social connection and engagement. We know the centre will remain a home away from home for members and participants.”
With a new home now confirmed, the Y is ready to build on its legacy and continue serving the growing community for decades to come in a vibrant walkable, transit-connected downtown district being developed in Mississauga. As the charity prepares for the relocation, members and participants can continue to use the existing Mississauga YMCA at 325 Burnhamthorpe Road.
“The YMCA has been a trusted partner in supporting the health and well-being of our residents for many years. I’m proud to have worked closely with City staff, the Mississauga YMCA, and Oxford Properties to make this a reality. As the Councillor for this area, I’m so pleased this new space will still be right in the heart of our downtown. It will continue to be a place where families can connect, children can grow, and people of all ages can stay active and be supported,” said John Kovac, Deputy Mayor and Ward 4 Councillor. “With more than 12 million visits to our recreation facilities each year, it’s important that we continue to invest in spaces that bring our community together, and I’m thrilled to see this coming together.”
“Welcoming the YMCA to Square One District is a proud milestone that symbolizes the area’s ongoing evolution into a forward-thinking neighbourhood where people live, work, and play. The Y is an integral community resource, and with the support of municipal and local partners, we’re thrilled it will be at the heart of Square One as we progress our ambition to transform a shopping, entertainment and dining destination into a dynamic, well-connected, and well-amenitized mixed-use neighbourhood,” said Sherif Masood, Head of Asset Management and Development, Canada, at Oxford Properties. “Today’s announcement is all part of our vision to reshape downtown Mississauga and comes at an exciting time, as we begin to welcome new residents into our first purpose-built rental buildings at Square One District.”
In addition to programming at the Mississauga YMCA, in Mississauga the Y offers employment programs at two locations, 33 additional child care centres, six additional day camp locations, student nutrition programs in Mississauga schools, and a variety of youth programs. As a charity, the Y believes that a person’s financial situation shouldn’t dictate their well-being and offers financial assistance to those who need it.
